GPT Oakland – 1/16/10 – Edmonds, WA *3rd*
8(A) World of Collections is a comic/game shop in a strip mall in Edmonds with a pretty easy to find location (the strip mall at least). I rolled in at about 8:45, had a seat, registered for the tournament, took my black decklist, and sat down to chat with Kyle Boddy and Joe Timidaiski, two noted local players (one of which even has a deck named after him, much to his chagrin!) Pauper cube drafts come up in the discussion as Joe talked about a deck he drafted the night before with Violent Eruption. That card was some good back in the day even if Jesse Hampton disagreed. Drafting With Dwayne Pt1
2Ok, here is my first video recording of Zen Draft, because James is too weak to man up and draft it. (Ok, it's a pretty bad format...)
Attempt #1 at recording video from my PC, tell me what you think!
Looking back there were quite a few mistakes, in both playing and in drafting. There were points in the draft I could have slipped into green or blue and had quite a few more allies. As well, picking Stonework Puma over Hideous End was likely very wrong, as the deck turned out in the end. Part 1 is the draft, and is included below. Part 2 will be coming up soon, with videos of the matches.
Videos after the jump.

The Cleanup Step – Bad Habits
0I have a lot of bad habits. I start things and I don't finish them. You'll notice that there's two PTQs and a GPT gone bye that I haven't written up about (other than posting my carpool from the San Diego PTQ in Seattle). I also don't keep notes well enough to revisit them days later to write a PTQ report. This has got to change starting this weekend at World of Collections in Edmonds, where I'll be attempting to garner three byes for GP Oakland. Until then, here's a somewhat brief recap of the three events in question:

Pauper Cube: Infinite Limited in a Box
4James had just asked us to come up with bios for this site. In doing so, I hit upon my love for all things cube. It got me to thinking: what about an article on cube of the pauper variety? I've definitely spent a lot of time constructing, refining and most of all playing mine. In today's article, I'm going to detail my thoughts and experiences with pauper cube and I'll talk about ways to construct your own. It's a ton of fun and definitely worth it.

PTQ report 1/2/09
2Greetings,
My name is Greg Peloquin, but pretty much everyone in the Pacific Northwest Magic community calls me G Pelly. I originally approached James with the idea of doing draft walkthrus here, but after the PTQ, I guess I have something more interesting to talk about. As much as 40 cards >>>>>> 60 cards, the limited will wait for another day.
Draft Leftovers.dec – A Trip to the Living End
2It's 9PM the night before an Extended PTQ. Most of the playtest group you're with is talking about running Scapeshift and how it's the best deck in the format. You're thinking about defaulting to the burn deck when Chris Kelly talks about a deck he saw online that had four Fulminator Mages and four Avalanche Riders... you've got my attention! Most people in the PNW know my love for land destruction - my 150 Highlander deck ran somewhere between 40-50 LD spells - so any time I can start a decklist with 8 LD spells when the supposed best deck in the format has to get to 7-8 lands to win is something I'm going to investigate.
Then I got told the rest of the deck concept and I was completely sold. (more...)
