A Morality Play – Pt. 1

It's round five of an eight round PTQ.  You're 3-1 and pretty confident in your deck's ability to win four matches and get you to the top 8.  So what do you do when...

  1. You draw your opening hand for game one and see a card from your sideboard in your hand?
  2. You mulligan to six cards. Your opponent isn't paying attention and you accidentally draw seven?
  3. In game two of a constructed match, you mulligan to six cards. You pile shuffle your deck and realize that there is one more card in your deck than there should be, and your opponent doesn't notice?
  4. Your opponent is shuffling his deck and several cards from his deck are exposed slightly (you'd have to be focusing on their deck to tell what the cards are) during the shuffle?

Would the action you take depend on the level of tournament you were playing in? Your record and chances of advancing? The prize at the end of the day?

Welcome to Still Had All These, where I'll document my theories on life, love, and loss, with some games of Magic thrown in for good measure.  Things are still in flux here, so please excuse the mess.

Things To Look For

  • Vampire Nighthawk - Pretty much every report I write on Zendikar limited is going to mention how much better things would have gone for me if I had the little bloodsucker that could.  Even if I have three of 'em, the fourth is just that much better.
  • Catch Phrase - I may not be a Pro Tour level Magic player, but even Osyp has respect for my Rainman-esque Catch Phrase skills.  If there's not Catch Phrase happening at a PTQ, something's very wrong.
  • Constructed - I need to fish or cut bait on sixty card decks.  My success playing magic has come bringing decks to the site as opposed to draft or sealed (Oh, Mana Tithe.), but I have a lot more fun playing limited.  If I want to get back to the Tour (and I'm pretty sure I do), I'll have to put more time into constructed.  Vampire Nighthawk might make cameos here as well.  He's that good.
  • MODO - See James.  See James draft.  See James draft badly.  Tell James how he could have done better.  It's no Drafting With Ruel, kids.
